Further Education for JEM staff

Six members of staff at JEM Education Marketing Services, based in Rushden, were presented with their NVQ certificates on Wednesday 26th July 2006, for a Performing Manufacturing Operations Course provided by the Leicestershire Engineering Training Group (LETG).

Claire Blackwell, Stephen Mitchell, Charlotte Norman, Liam O’Brien, and Neill Catterill all studied for a National Vocational Qualification, Level 2 - Performing Manufacturing Operations, and Darren Palmer attained the above and in addition Level 2 – Wholesale, Distribution, Warehousing and Storage Apprenticeship. The candidates were presented with their certificates by Duncan Squires, a member of the LETG, and Paul Markland, Managing Director of Orbital Marketing Services Group.

LETG (Leicestershire Engineering Training Group) are a regional training provider offering government funded adult training for people up to the age of 25 years. The training was carried out mainly within the workplace, but with some portfolio/coursework to be done at home with a one-on-one interview every 4 to 6 weeks. JEM worked with two LETG assessors, who carried out the regular assessments and interviews. The impact on the working day was negligible as the majority of the training involved being assessed on actually doing the candidates' job. The whole course from start to finish took around 18 months.

Director and General Manager of JEM Education Marketing Services, Andre Kleinman stated:

“The key benefits of working with the LETG are; the ability to provide "free" training and the marked improvement from the candidates with their communication, awareness of their role and team comradeship. We have, of course, had to make time for this to happen and the individuals involved have put in a great deal of effort into getting this project off the ground. It is extremely worthwhile and many of the candidates are considering signing up for future courses in September.”
